* New Supplier *

The Tuna Tin 2
is now available in kit form from a new QRP kit supplier "QRPme".

The Tuna Tin is a nostalgia project and dates back to a 1976 design by the late Doug DeMaw W1FB. The kit has been bought up to date with new components but otherwise it is a classic W1FB project. Power output from this transmitter is about a third of a watt and is supplied with a 7.040 MHz crystal for 40 metres.

The VE3DNL Marker/Generator was our first kit and it is still selling well. This is a great kit for the beginner because of the single sided board, low parts count, and ease of construction. It won't break you up on price either. Many people have built it and had it running within 10 minutes. It has outputs for 5khz, 10khz, 20khz, and 40khz and runs on a 9 volt battery. The size of the circuit board is a little over one and a half inches square. It is a handy device for calibrating dials and as a general crystal calibrator for older rigs without digital counters. You can use it as a signal generator for peaking up receivers. The price for the VE3DNL Marker/Generator is $12.00 including shipping and handling, (Dx $15 U.S). The kit consists of single sided, silk screened board, all board mounted parts, and an assembly manual written by Chuck Adams, K5FO. All that you need to add is a 9V battery and a case if you want one. Contact Jay for further details. Click here for more photos on the Norcal web pages.

Here's a description of the kit from a previous posting to QRP-L from Doug KI6DS :-

Guys, I guess I'll let the cat out of the bag. The Fort Smith QRP Club will be offering a Manhattan Style receiver very soon. And, it is not just any receiver. It is the receiver that is in the SWL40+, designed by Dave Benson. Dave has very graciously givine permission for the Ft. Smith QRP Group to sell a Manhattan Style kit of his reciever. It is called the "SideKick", and is perfect as a companion receiver for the TT2 and other simple 40 meter Transmitters that we all have. It has a VFO of course, is a superhet, and even comes with a mute switch, so it is ready to go with that transmitter!! Plus, it is a wonderful project for those who want to get their feet wet and try Manhattan style construction. The kit will include all components, 2.5" by 3" plain pcboard, and enought 1/8" strips to make the pads. All you will need to supply is the case and connectors for power, antenna, and headphones. Frank Roberts, VE3FAO, did the layout, and he has built a prototype, and it works beautifully. If you take QRPp, check out Frank's layout drawings for the Iowa QRP 10. He did the receiver in the same style, and it is beautiful. Proceeds from the sale of the reciever will be used to put on Arkiecon 2003.
