Please note there will not be an Arkiecon in 2004. Instead the area will be served by a new venue called Ozarkcon which is sponsored by Four States QRP group in association with AmQRP. Arkiecon has featured an impressive list of speakers - some of which are shown below. It is was to coincide with the Fort Smith Area Amateur Radio Club hamfest which is held on the same site - but Arkiecon is more than just a day of lectures and the chance to pick up a bargain at the hamfest. The evening before, has by tradition, become a visit to the "Ribeye" where QRPers fill the resturant and have a great time. The Guesthouse Inn Hotel has been our home for the weekend and they not only cut us a great deal on the price but also accomodate us in every way - as for example, in the fourth photo you can see us relaxing in the breakfast room where the QRP fun goes on till the early hours.

As you can see, it's often standing room only at Arkiecon.

You don't get better speakers than this. On the left is Jim Kortge K8IQY who has turned Manhattan construction into an art form. Jim is also an accomplished electronics designer.

| Barbecue photos needed | Barbecue photos needed | On the Saturday night after the convention Fort Smith QRP put on a free barbecue while folk get to know each other over great food. Lots of QRP kit appears as we show off our latest projects. Many thanks to Darrel "Herb" Swenson - K0AWB for all the above photographs. |
